My Cold Under Control

Roaming Around The Village

Hello!

When you were a kid, have you ever 'taken' something that belonged to your neighbours? My friend and I were roaming around the village on our bikes when we saw a mangosteen tree by the riverside. There were a lot of ripe mangosteens on it. We hurriedly parked our bikes, looked around and saw nobody. There was no house nearby either. We climbed the tree and managed to pluck some and quickly got down.

Then suddenly we heard someone's voice not far away. My friend quickly bundled the mangosteens in her dress and off we went!!!

Where I Enjoy My Mangosteen

"Za! Where are you?" That is my mom's voice.
"I'm here, mom." Oh! my gosh! Come down quickly or I will come and get you!!!"
"OK, OK." Do you know where I am? Guess where you can find me. This happened years ago when I was 8.
I was on a mangosteen tree when my mom called me. This particular tree was very special to me especially when mangosteen was in season. I would climb the tree and ate the fruits up there alone and sometimes with my friend. We really enjoyed eating fresh mangosteens on the tree. From the top of the tree, I also had a nice a view of my house, my neighbours and the scenic river where my friends and I used to go for a swim. You see! I controlled everything around me.
That was really fun.
Oh! what a marvellous memory!

Now mangosteen is in season in Malaysia and other Southeast Asian countries. So don't miss to taste this SUPERFRUITS. Eat them fresh. A few days ago I went to a supermarket in my area to buy mangosteens. Sadly to say- they are not fresh anymore. The skin is as hard as a rock. There is no way you can press to open them. Where do you go to get the fresh ones? Ok, take a break! Head to your village. If you don't have one, just go to any village that you know. Buy them and if you are lucky you can get a free treat from the owners of the mangosteen trees. Enjoy the fruit pure taste -fresh, sweet and creamy. Caution! show your kids how to eat them to avoid choking.

I'm back!
Today I would like to recall the mangosteen song that was passed to me by my eldest sister.
But first I would like to apologize if it is not the original version of the song. I will share with you what I only remember now- maybe they are not complete. The actual song is in my language- Bahasa Malaysia. But I will translate it to English. I think it only consists of four lines.
Ok, here's the song:

Some farmers are trying their luck in Hawaii and the Caribbean, but the fruit is known for being difficult to grow. It is said that Queen Victoria offered a sizable prize to anyone who could bring an edible mangosteen back to England, but no one was able. Mangosteens are currently not available in the United States because the rind can carry pests that would threaten other crops.
The mangosteen is a round, purple fruit slightly smaller than a tennis ball. To eat it, you can crush the brittle yet moist rind with your palms to reveal the pure-white delicacy inside. The bitter rind is inedible, and the fruit comes in the form of variously sized wedged segments, the largest of which may hold a solitary seed. The number of segments usually varies from 4 to 8 which is matched by the number of points on the protrusion from the underside of the fruit; therefore, you can discover how many segments you are in for before you open the mangosteen.
The flavor? Its really not like anything else you may have tasted, so do not take comparisons too literally.
